College Football Recruiting: Chase Wolf to Wisconsin Leads Huge Commitments You Missed Last Week

HERO Sports by HERO Sports
May 10, 2017

Between April 30 and May 6, more than 40 high school football players gave verbal commitments to FBS programs.

Though each signing was covered in one or another, most of the attention went to top-tier prospects such as Payton Wilson (North Carolina), C.J. Moore (Oklahoma State) and Steve Stephens (Oregon).

Here are five players who committed to FBS programs last week that you may have missed:

Chase Wolf – QB, Wisconsin

Chase Wolf, a three-star pro-style quarterback from Cincinnati's St. Xavier High School, picked Wisconsin over Boston College, Florida, South Carolina and others. The 6-foot-2, 193-pounder told The Cincinnati Enquirer that he was deciding between Boston College and South Carolina before his visit to Madison in mid-April.

"I'm gonna be honest, before the Wisconsin (visit) it was between South Carolina and Boston College," Wolf said. "I kind of put Wisconsin on the backburner but after the visit, I was blown away and I knew right away."

Blaine Scott – OT, Ole Miss

Most non-Ole Miss fans missed Blaine Scott's pledge because — like Chase Wolf — he's buried in another strong recruiting class from Ohio.

The 6-foot-4, 299-pound three-star prospect from Portsmouth has played both guard and tackle and is ranked the 14th guard in the nation by Rivals. Scott is a big man with good quickness, footwork and rare combination to dominate defensive tackles or reach the second level.

J.T. Woods – S, Baylor

Four Texas players committed to Baylor on April 30, including three-star safety J.T. Woods from Cibolo, whose pledge was sandwichd by Jackson Gleeson, Mark Mitlon and Delarrin Turner-Yell, all fellow three-star players.

At 6-foot-3, 182 pounds, Woods is a gigantic defensive back who had 87 tackles and six pass breakups for Steele High School in 2016. He also runs track.

Jamal Elliott – RB, Oregon

Jamal Elliott, a four-star running back from Durham, N.C., didn't get his due when committing on April 30. He was one of six players to commit to the Ducks in two days, five of whom are four-star recruits, including the nation's ninth-ranked safety, Steve Stephens from Fresno, Calif.

Elliott, a 5-foot-10, 185-pounder who picked Oregon over LSU, South Carolina and Virginia Tech and others, is a patient runner who can provide help in the passing game.

"In my eyes, it's my best offer," Elliott told Oregon Live in March. "Growing up, Oregon was a school I always liked. Of course, it was my dream school. For me to have Oregon, it's a dream come true."

Re-Al Mitchell – QB, Iowa State

The Cyclones nabbed a dual-threat quarterback last week, earning a commitment from Re-Al Mitchell of St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif.

The 6-foot, 181-pounder had 3,990 total yards and 45 touchdowns as a junior in 2016 and picked Iowa State over Arizona, Northwestern, Utah and others. He is a three-star recruit  and the 55th-ranked player in California.
