Alabama and Clemson met once between 1976-2015. College football's two current powerhouse programs have now met in three consecutive seasons.

The first half of the Tigers-Tide 17-game series was dominated by shutouts. Clemson won their first three meetings in 1900, 1904 and 1905 by a combined score of 78-0. Then Alabama ripped off 13 straight wins, seven of which were shutouts, including in three consecutive seasons, 1934 (40-0), 1935 (33-0) and 1936 (32-0).
Alabama's 56-0 shellacking of Clemson in 1975 was their fourth meeting since 1967 but would be their final meeting until 33 years later, when Alabama won their 11th in a row, a 34-10 victory in Atlanta in the 2008 season opener. The series then took another hiatus — albeit much shorter than before — and they didn't meet again until the 2015 national championship, when Alabama won their 13th straight.

Three-hundred and sixty-three days later, Clemson finally beat the Tide, their first win in the series since 1905, on a last-minute touchdown to claim their first national championship since 1981 and make the all-time series 13-4 in favor of Bama.
The teams will meet again on New Year's Day in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl, a playoff semifinal. It will mark the the third time they've played in at least three consecutive seasons (1934-36, 1966-69) and will either end Clemson's reign atop college football or put Alabama one win away from a fifth national title in nine seasons.
