You can officially close the door on a return to Texas Tech for Tommy Tuberville — if that door wasn't already slammed shut.
Tuberville was fired at Auburn in 2008 following a five-win season, his first sub-nine-win season since 2001. He was just two years removed from 11 wins and a Cotton Bowl victory in 2006 and four years from an undefeated campaign in 2004. After a year off, the former Ole Miss coach landed in Lubbock in early 2010, taking over for Mike Leach, fired days earlier for player mistreatment allegations.
Was Tuberville happy going from Auburn to Lubbock? Hardly.

“You run me off at Auburn and you ship me to Lubbock, Texas,” said Tuberville, who had a 20-17 record in three years (9-17 in the Big 12). “I’m going to tell you what, that’s like going to Siberia. Somebody asked me, ‘What’s Lubbock look like?’ It looked like Iraq.”
Seems harsh, although Texas Tech fans didn't need any more reason to dislike Tuberville after his abrupt resignation in 2012 in order to accept the head coaching job at Cincinnati.
"Well, I love those people out there," he added.
Tuberville was fired at Cincinnati in December after a four-win season.
