Freshman quarterbacks don't often play regularly and even fewer end up the starter. The ones that do, however, either flashed big-time ability or showed the maturity of an upperclassman. Some display both.

Here are the top freshman QBs of the 2017 season.
1. Josh Jackson — Virginia Tech
STATS: 65.4%, 1,378 YDS, 12 TD, 3 INT, 157 RUSH YDS, TD
Jackson has been terrific from Day 1, orchestrating a 31-24 win over West Virginia to open the season. The Hokies fell to Clemson Saturday and Jackson tossed a pair of interceptions, but even in what will be viewed as a mediocre showing at best, he went 29-for-44 for 251 yards and a TD.
2. Jake Fromm — Georgia
STATS: 67.6%, 724 YDS, 10 TD, 2 INT, 24 RUSH YDS, 2 TTD
Fromm's been impressive since taking over for Jacob Eason mid-game Week 1, but his numbers only tell part of the story. He hasn't been asked to carry the offense — he has just 40 attempts combined the past three weeks — but he's standing in the pocket and delivering with accuracy and has been as poised as a freshman can be expected to be.

3. Armani Rogers — UNLV
STATS: 60.8%, 651 YDS, 4 TD, 3 INT, 261 RUSH YDS, 3 TD
Rogers is a great athlete with speed, arm strength and loads of ability. He originally committed to Cal but changed his mind after they changed offensive coordinators and the Rebels have been the beneficiary. The Rebels run the football first and foremost and Rogers is a huge part of that.
4. James Blackman — Florida State
STATS: 55.9%, 399 YDS, 2 TD, 0 INT
He has just two starts under his belt but Blackman is showing growth despite a 1-1 record since taking over for the injured Deondre Francois.Blackman was more prolific than efficient versus North Carolina State but has not thrown a pick yet and has put his arm strength on display.
5. Kellen Mond — Texas A&M
STATS: 54.7%, 808 YDS, 6 TD, 2 INT, 252 RUSH YDS, TD
Mond was 3-for-17 to open the season at UCLA but was 19-for-27 Saturday versus South Carolina. He relies on his playmakers to run after the catch more than he throws the ball down the field, but he can use his legs, too — 204 yards the past two weeks.
6. Chazz Suratt — North Carolina
STATS: 63.3%, 988 YDS, 5 TD, 2 INT, 147 RUSH YDS, 4 TD
Suratt has been efficient and mobile, showing good instincts and physical skill in UNC's five games. He has just two interceptions and has been accurate on short and intermediate throws. He torched Duke with his feet — 77 YDS, TD — but struggled versus Georgia Tech — 18-for-30, 141 YDS, INT.
7. Feleipe Franks — Florida
STATS: 63.5%, 557 YDS, 3 TD, INT
Franks has been inconsistent but has made some plays and shown the physical ability to play quarterback in the SEC. The Gators' O-line hasn't been steady in pass pro and the running game has been limited, putting Franks in some tough down and distances, but he was solid versus Tennessee and Vanderbilt and has shown growth since the season started.
