"I can't tell you how special this is for a kid that grew up in Nebraska," Scott Frost said in his opening statement at a news conference last December as he was introduced as head coach at Nebraska, his alma mater.
In leaving UCF for Nebraska, Frost joined a group of FBS head coaches who are currently coaching at their alma mater. Jonathan Smith did the same by leaving his assistant position at Washington for the head-coaching job at Oregon State, his alma mater.
How many current FBS head coaches are coaching at their alma mater?

Answer
22
Five Big Ten head coaches are coaching their alma mater, the most of any FBS conference. The Mountain has four, followed by the MAC and SEC with three apiece. The Big 12 and Pac have two apiece, and the ACC, Sun Belt and Independents have one. The American and Conference USA have zero.
