Duke and Wake Forest combined for seven wins during the 1994 and 1995 season (7-37). They've already combined for eight wins in 2017, going a perfect 8-0 through four weeks.
The North Carolina private schools, separated by just 80 miles, haven't fielded good football programs at the same time since the United States entered the Korean War in 1950.
The Demon Deacons and Blue Devils have been ranked in the Associated Press poll in the same year seven times since 1930, but all those came in consecutive years between 1944-50. They've never reached the postseason in the same year, never combined for more than 15 wins in a season and haven't won six games in the same season since 1971. Additionally, all of their seasons with a combined winning percentage above .700 came before 1950, and they've never combined for a winning percentage above .800.

They're on pace to break or end many of those records and streaks. With eight regular-season games remaining, they need just two wins apiece to win six games and reach bowl eligibility. Duke is No. 27 and Wake Forest is No. 40 in the Week 5 AP poll and although that's not a guarantee — or even likelihood — to break the top 25, especially given their respective upcoming schedules (Duke has Miami, Florida State and Virginia Tech in three of their next four games, while Wake has Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville and Notre Dame), it's still far closer than they both usually come at the same time.
They've already ended the streak for fewest combined losses through four games. This is the first time since 1947 that neither team has a loss after four games. That year, Duke started 3-0-1 and Wake 4-0.
Don't bet on the programs to retain their perfect 1.000 winning percentage much longer but it's a safe bet that they will earn a postseason berth in the same season for the first time ever.
