If the Arizona Cardinals select Kyler Murray with the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Texas will increase its lead for most No. 1 picks among all states.
Murray, a native of Bedford, Texas, would be the third straight No. 1 pick from Texas and 12th overall, four more than any other state. California (eight) and Alabama (five) are the only other states with at least five.
Since the first NFL Draft in 1936, the 83 draft picks have come from two different countries, 31 different states (plus Washington, D.C.) and 79 different cities. Only four cities have multiple picks — Bessemer, Ala., Chicago, Los Angles and New Orleans — and Frank Sinkwich (Starjak, Croatia) remains the only foreign-born No. 1 pick.
Prior to Myles Garrett and Baker Mayfield, the same state didn't have back-to-back picks since Californians David Carr and Carson Palmer were drafted in 2002 and 2003, respectively.
