D1-FCS Heat Scores – Week 3
Southern IL is the hottest FCS team with a Heat Score of 96 after a 3-0 start. An impressive 38-21 win over in-state rival and BR-2 Eastern IL helped them make the jump to BR-7.
Eastern Kentucky, another team on the rise with a Heat Score of 92, has outscored opponents 101 to 33 in their first 3 games of the season.
This week we release Heat Scores, an advanced metric we use to quantify a team’s momentum heading into the week ahead. For a better understanding of how Heat Score is determined you can read the methodology section of our blog.
Heat Score is a number between 0 and 100; 100 being the hottest of hot, and 0 being “not.” To get to 100, a team would have to go 5-0 in their five most recent games and out-perform our expectations in each, significantly improving their HeroSports in the process. This methodology penalizes teams for unconvincing wins, and narrow victories over weaker opposition.
On the other hand, to earn a Heat Score of “0″ a team would have to lose all five of their most recent games in a way that also significantly hurts their HeroSports. Essentially they have to suffer five upsets in a row.
