One look today at Eli Manning's stats and it becomes quickly apparently why New York Giants' head coach Ben McAdoo is thinking of benching the veteran for this weekend's contest at San Francisco.

Manning has started 207 straight games behind center for the Giants, but after yesterday's 51-17 thrashing at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams, change might soon be in order.
When asked during the postgame press conference if the starting QB was one of many that might get benched so the team can look at younger players, McAdoo replied, "That includes everybody."
Eli Manning Stats in 2017
Manning is just one game away from tying his brother Peyton for second on the NFL's all-time consecutive starts list behind only Brett Favre.
However, one look at Eli's stats not just from this season, but also from 2016 show why McAdoo may be taking a look at rookie and former California standout Davis Webb this Sunday.
His QBR rating of just 42.6 places him #21 overall and is a huge reason his squad is off to a horrible 1-7 start. In a league dominated by the passing game, Manning has more 100-yard passing games (2) than he does 300-yard passing affairs (1).
Manning's statistical failures are especially exposed when compared to Tom Brady – an elite quarterback whom Manning has defeated twice in the Super Bowl.
The only other quarterback on the active roster other than Webb is the much maligned Geno Smith, which makes McAdoo's options quite limited at this point.
Considering he very well might be coaching for his job over the second half of the season, Manning might be his best option despite the terrible numbers he's putting up this year.
