Louisiana was easily one of the best teams in the Sun Belt last year.
The Ragin’ Cajuns won eight of their first nine games in 2024, including a victory at Wake Forest before beginning conference play.
But Louisiana didn’t end the season how fans hoped. The Ragin’ Cajuns lost 31-3 against Marshall in the conference title game and 34-3 against TCU in the New Mexico Bowl.
However, Louisiana should still be one of the better teams in the Sun Belt again in 2025 – and could even compete for a conference title again.

Louisiana Football Favored To Win The Sun Belt West
Louisiana does have some talent returning. But the Ragin’ Cajuns will be without some of their top players from last year, including quarterback Ben Wooldridge.
The 2024 Group of Five All-American threw for 2,453 yards, 17 touchdowns, and six interceptions on a 66% completion rate and rushed for 174 yards and five scores.
Redshirt freshman Daniel Beale and redshirt sophomore Lunch Winfield, who were both on the team last year and combined for 32 pass attempts in 2024, as well as redshirt junior Walker Howard were in the mix to compete for the starting QB job going into fall camp. Howard transferred from Ole Miss after previously being at LSU.
The Ragin’ Cajuns return plenty of production at running back, though. G5 Preseason All-American Bill Davis led Louisiana with 796 yards and nine touchdowns rushing. Zylan Perry, an all-conference honorable mention last year, was second on the team with 695 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
The team’s top four players in receiving yards last year are gone. Wide receiver Robert Williams is the team’s leading returning receiver after catching 26 passes for 290 yards and a TD in 2024. Tight end Caden Jensen is also back after catching 19 passes for 138 yards and two scores.
Jax Harrington is one of Louisiana’s leaders on the offensive line. The right guard made the All-Sun Belt honorable mention list last year. Tackle George Jackson and guard Kaden Moreau are also back after starting multiple games last season.
Louisiana’s top five tacklers from last year are no longer on the team, but the defense does return some standout players.
All-Sun Belt second-team defensive lineman Jordan Lawson is back after recording 44 tackles, 10.5 for loss, as well as 5.5 sacks, two passes defended, one interception, and a fumble recovery. All-conference second-team defensive back Tyree Skipper is also returning. He tied for a team lead with four interceptions while adding 41 tackles and six passes defended. Linebacker Jaden Dugger is also back after tallying 37 tackles, four for loss, with one sack, two passes defended, and a forced fumble.
Louisiana Football Season Prediction
I predict Louisiana won’t win the Sun Belt Championship and will go Over 7.5 wins during the regular season.
Considering how much talent the Ragin’ Cajuns lost from last year, I don’t know if they will quite make it back to the Sun Belt title game. But I could see them winning eight games in 2025.
I expect Louisiana will be 3-1 to start the season with their only non-conference loss coming at Missouri. But even then, earning five Sun Belt wins will be challenging.
I think beating James Madison on the road and Texas State, even if it’s at home, will be tough. But every other game on Louisiana’s schedule is at least winnable. Maybe the Ragin’ Cajuns slip up against Southern Miss with Charles Huff there now, or maybe their road trip to Arkansas State will lead to a loss.
But I ultimately think Louisiana will have a winning record in conference play and will be back in a bowl game in 2025.
