The transfer portal continues to affect college football bowl games.
Marshall, which won the Sun Belt Championship this season, opted out of the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl, which will now feature Louisiana Tech playing Army instead.
Marshall reportedly made the decision after more than 25 players entered the transfer portal in the wake of head coach Charles Huff going to Southern Miss.
Louisiana Tech will play Army, which won the AAC Championship but just lost to Navy this week, on Dec. 28 on ESPN at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana.
“We are excited to accept the opportunity to play in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl against a fantastic and storied program as Army,” Louisiana Tech athletic director Ryan Ivey said in a press release. “I believe our football program is moving toward positive structure and the opportunity to play in this bowl adds to that momentum. We are looking forward to being in Shreveport for this matchup.”
LA Tech won two of its last three games to end the regular season with a 5-7 record and will be playing in its first bowl game since 2020.
