JMU’s 2023 season continues to get better, as ESPN’s “College GameDay” is heading to Harrisonburg, Virginia, next week.
This will be the third time the popular college football television show will go to JMU. The Dukes are one of seven undefeated FBS teams this season, as they are 10-0 overall and 6-0 against Sun Belt opponents.
JMU will take on App State (6-4, 4-2 Sun Belt) at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 18, on ESPN+. The Dukes have the country’s fourth-longest winning streak going into that clash.
JMU Football-GameDay History
JMU will be the first on-campus location to host “College GameDay” three times that isn’t a Power Five school, according to Dukes associate athletic director Kevin Warner.
Army, Air Force, and North Dakota State have each hosted twice.
This will be the first time this season “GameDay” went to a non-Power Five program. This is also the third time in four years that “GameDay” has gone to a Sun Belt game.
The show also went to App State last year and was at Coastal Carolina in 2020. “College GameDay” also made a trip in 2012 for Troy’s contest against Navy, which was played at a neutral site.
JMU’s Past GameDay Visitis
“College GameDay” has been to JMU twice before, both when the Dukes were playing at the FCS level.
The show’s first appearance there was when the Dukes took on rival Richmond on Oct. 25, 2015. The second was when JMU played Villanova on Oc. 14, 2017. An estimated 12,000 people were in attendance both times.
College GameDay’s Past Group of Five Visits
“College GameDay” will have aired 21 times when featuring a Group of Five game after going to JMU. The show has traveled to G5 campuses on 14 occasions.
JMU is in its second season as a G5 program.
