Boise State, UNLV, San Jose State, and San Diego State all have byes this week, but there’s still plenty of football to be played in the Mountain West.
This week’s schedule includes the first all-Mountain West game of the season with Air Force traveling to Utah State. Wyoming also welcomes former New Mexico quarterback Devon Dampier to War Memorial Stadium as he tries to improve Utah’s record to 3-0 on the season. New Mexico At UCLA
Betting line: UCLA is a 15.5-point college football betting odds favorite on BetMGM, and the Over/Under is 52.5 points.
How to watch: 10 p.m. ET, Big Ten Network
Prediction: I predict UCLA wins 34-13. New Mexico running back Scottre Humphrey had a breakout game last week with 141 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He’ll give the Bruins’ defense some trouble, but the Lobos (1-1) don’t have enough of a supporting cast around him to win this one. UCLA (0-2) is going to be eager to prove it’s better than its record, especially after last week’s loss to UNLV. Keep an eye on dual-threat quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who put up 314 yards of offense and two touchdowns against the Rebels.
Middle Tennessee At Nevada
Betting line: Nevada is a nine-point favorite, and the Over/Under is 48.5 points.
How to watch: 5 p.m. ET, Mountain West Network
Prediction: I predict Nevada wins 27-17. Wolf Pack quarterback Chubba Purdy put up a team-high 115 rushing yards and 144 passing yards in a comeback win over FCS program Sacramento State last week to improve to 1-1 on the season. His favorite target through two games is wide receiver Marcus Bellon, who has eight catches for 135 yards and a touchdown. Middle Tennessee (0-2) has been outscored 76-24 in two games this season, including a 34-14 loss to Austin Peay. The Blue Raiders are surrendering 389.5 yards of offense a game.
Southern At Fresno State
How to watch: 10 p.m. ET, Mountain West Network
Prediction: I predict Fresno State cruises to a 42-10 win. The Bulldogs (2-1) have been clicking on offense so far this season, especially on the ground. They’re averaging 195 rushing yards a game, led by running backs Bryson Donelson and Rayshon Luke, who have combined for 428 yards and five touchdowns through three games. Fresno State gave up just 140 rushing yards and forced two turnovers in a 36-27 win over Oregon State last week. Southern (1-2) is coming off a 30-7 loss to Alabama State.
Portland State At Hawaii
How to watch: Midnight ET, Mountain West App/Spectrum Sports
Prediction: I predict Hawaii wins 34-7. Quarterback Micah Alejado will be a “game-time decision,” according to Hawaii head football coach Timmy Chang as the freshman continues to deal with an ankle injury that kept him out of last week’s win over Sam Houston. The good news is the offense didn’t miss a beat with backup Luke Weaver taking the snaps. He racked up 294 passing yards and three touchdowns as the Rainbow Warriors (2-1) beat Sam Houston 37-20. Whoever takes the snaps this weekend will get plenty of help from wide receiver Pofele Ashlock, who leads the team with 22 catches for 218 yards and three touchdowns. Portland State (0-3) is coming off a 50-20 loss at North Dakota.
