Toledo vs. Washington State Prediction, Betting Odds & How To Watch

Toledo was one of the preseason favorites to win the MAC but hasn’t lived up to those expectations thus far.

The Rockets are 4-3 but 2-2 in conference play. They’re 20th in this week’s HERO Sports Group of Five Top 25 Media Poll after going 2-2 in their last four outings. They’ve decisively defeated Kent State and Akron during that time, but they’ve also lost on the road to Bowling Green and Western Michigan, granted it was by a collective six points.

Now the Rockets will go back on the road to take on Washington State. The Cougars are 3-4, but their record doesn’t indicate how well they’ve played.

After beating Colorado State a few weeks ago, they’ve lost to Ole Miss and Virginia by a collective five points. Both of those games were on the road – trips across the country – and were against top-20 teams in the nation.

Wazzu is hoping to get back to .500 and get closer to bowl-eligibility after its matchup with Toledo.

Washington State is a +1.5 college football betting odds underdog against Toledo, with the Over/Under being 45.5 as of this writing. The moneyline for Toledo is -115, while it’s -105 for Washington State.

The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 25. The contest is taking place at Martin Stadium in Pullman, Washington.

I predict Washington State will win and cover the 1.5-point spread. I also project the game will go Under 45.5 total points.

I expect this to be a defensive battle. Toledo is one of the best teams in the country on that side of the ball. The Rockets have given up the eighth-fewest points per game in the country (14.29) and the third-fewest yards per game (224.1).

The Cougars aren’t quite up to that level, but they’ve been solid on defense aside from their back-to-back losses to North Texas and Washington where Wazzu allowed 59 points in each contest.

For the season, the Cougars are in the top 50 in the country in total defense with 341.6 YPG allowed. They’ve given up 27.4 PPG. 

And considering how they’ve played in their last two clashes with Ole Miss and Virginia, two top-notch programs right now, I think Wazzu continues to play at that high level at home after being on the road for its last three matchups.

Led by linebackers Parker McKenna, Caleb Francl, and Anthony Palano, Washington State has given up just 44 points in its last three games. So I think the Cougars play inspired at that side of the ball at home and give Toledo’s offense a ton of problems en route to a win.
