Last week’s Black College football slate was filled with offensive fireworks — five teams scored a combined 250 points — and tough losses, including Morgan State’s Hail Mary loss to Georgetown.
The Week 7 schedule features eight homecomings, a handful of conference contests, and a non-conference matchup between former league foes, as Prairie View A&M enjoys a bye.
Here are my top five matchups and predictions for this week.

5. Howard (3-2) at Sacred Heart (4-2), Saturday, 1:00 PM (ESPN+)
Already 2-0 against the MEAC this season, Sacred Heart is not only seeking perfection against the conference, but it would also like to redeem itself after its 21-14 defeat to Howard in 2024. The Pioneers’ balanced offensive attack has garnered them 422.5 yards and 31.25 points per contest over their last four games. However, the Bison defense has allowed just 9.7 points per game versus FCS opponents.
Bison 21, Pioneers 20
4. Texas Southern (2-3, 2-1 SWAC) at Grambling State (3-2, 0-1 SWAC), Saturday, 7:00 PM (ESPN+)
Texas Southern’s aspirations of staying a game out of first place in the SWAC West will be challenged when the Tigers travel to Louisiana for Grambling’s homecoming. Both teams have split the last four games in this series. However, TSU hasn’t won in Grambling since 2013. Keep an eye on TSU quarterback KJ Cooper, who has thrown for 680 yards and scored five total touchdowns. Meanwhile, Grambling’s defense has been disruptive towards signal-callers this season, racking up ten sacks in the process.
Texas Southern 24, Grambling State 21
3. South Carolina State (3-3) at North Carolina A&T (1-5), Saturday, 1:00 PM (FloSports)
South Carolina State ended its seven-game losing streak in this long-time rivalry last year, defeating the Aggies 45-25. However, the Bulldogs have allowed 72 points in two games against FCS opponents this year. If North Carolina A&T can continue to move the ball with running back Wesley Graves (341 rushing yards, five touchdowns) and force a turnover (or two), the Aggies might have to celebrate at The Greatest Homecoming on Earth.
Bulldogs 31, Aggies 30
2. North Carolina Central (4-2) at Florida A&M (1-3), Saturday, 3:00 PM (HBCU Go)
North Carolina Central has not lost to a non-conference HBCU opponent since 2021, compiling an 11-0 record during that stretch. This week, the Eagles will travel to Tallahassee to face Florida A&M, who haven’t started a season with a win percentage of .250 or worse in their first four games since 2016. Thanks to quarterback Walker Harris (1,514 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, four interceptions) and running back Chris Mosley (807 total yards, seven touchdowns), NCCU has averaged 53.7 points in its last four games. Meanwhile, FAMU has given up 123 points in its previous three contests.
Eagles 35, Rattlers 17
1. Alabama State (4-1, 2-0 SWAC) at Jackson State (4-1, 2-0 SWAC), Saturday, 3:30 PM (ESPNU)
Could Jackson State’s homecoming be the de facto SWAC East Title Game? Well, this is a matchup between arguably the best two teams in Black College football to this point in the season. Both teams scored a combined 109 points and compiled 1,264 yards of offense last week alone. The Hornets, led by quarterback Andrew Body (1,368 total yards, 15 touchdowns, ZERO interceptions), are averaging 40.6 this season and yielded 16.25 per contest during their four-game winning streak. The Tigers have their own dual-threat signal-caller in JaCobian Morgan (1,106 total yards, seven touchdowns, one interception), who is leading the nation’s fourth-best total offense, averaging 506.4 per game. Alabama State has dropped three of the last four games against the Tigers. That lone victory was JSU’s 2023 homecoming.
Hornets 31, Tigers 28
