In a National Signing Day stunner, FCS and SWAC member Jackson State has signed the nation’s No. 1-ranked recruit.
Travis Hunter is a five-star cornerback out of Georgia. He was committed to Florida State before reportedly informing the Seminoles the morning of NSD that he planned to sign with Jackson State. It became official shortly after reports came out on Twitter saying Jackson State had flipped Hunter.
“Has the tools to be a difference maker the second he steps foot on the college campus of his choice,” 247Sports national recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins wrote about Hunter. “Viewed by most recruiters and scouts as cornerback long term, but offensive coaches are likely going to be trying to get him some burn at wide receiver in situational packages. Should work his way onto the two-deep as a freshman and then blossom into an impact player and potential All-American. Will play on Sundays if there are no set backs and has a chance to be selected Day 1 of the NFL Draft if he keeps progressing.”
Deion Sanders’ impact as the Jackson State head coach has been immediate. He brought in the top FCS recruiting class last year. This fall, Jackson State is 11-1 and playing in Saturday’s Celebration Bowl.
