Kennesaw State’s Dorian Walker Is The Owls’ Own Hometown Hero

Kennesaw State’s Dorian Walker Is The Owls’ Own Hometown Hero

Kennesaw State senior defensive back Dorian Walker is something like a hometown hero. Walker attended Mount Paran Christian in Kennesaw,Ga., where he was an absolute stud at running back, and defensive back. He rushed for 2,262 yards and 34 touchdowns and won MVP of the state championship game where he rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, Walker was first team all state, all county and won region 6-1A offensive player of the year. This all set up his college career, and eventually his time with the FCS Owls.

Walker signed with Georgia Tech out of High School as a cornerback. He played in every game his freshmen year and finished the year with an interception. Following his freshmen year, he decided he wanted to make a change. The decision was to return to the same city he dominated in during high school.

“It didn’t feel like me. I wanted to be somewhere that felt like me, where I felt at home," Walker said.

He decided to transfer to Kennesaw State for his sophomore year.

“I liked what they were doing with the new program and it felt like me, and I wanted to be a part of it," he responded when asked what made him choose Kennesaw State.

Walker had a solid sophomore season at Kennesaw State. He finished 4th in the Big South in interceptions and 18th in tackles among defensive backs. He did a bit of everything. He had five tackles for loss, a quarterback hurry, a huge 62-yard kick return against Tennessee Tech, and broke up 3 passes.

His junior year was perhaps even more impressive than his sophomore year. He was asked to transition to safety.

“Injuries and things is what moved me to safety," he said.

Walker showed he’s a team player and made the transition with no questions asked. He earned All-Big South 1st team honors.

Walker was named Preseason second-team All-American, ahead of his senior year. There’s no doubt that he’ll have a breakout senior year and turn heads as the season progresses.

“I’m mostly looking forward to playing my last year with my guys and just the fellowship," he responded when asked what he was looking forward to most during his senior campaign.

In Saturday's game against FBS Kent State, he had six tackles in a tough game that went into overtime.

Big things are expected out of Walker this year. All-American honors, an interception title and of course he is hopeful he can help bring a national championship home to the same city he brought a high school title to. It’s a tough task, but Walker is definitely built for it.
