Welcome to the 2020 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Throughout the May-August months, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-1. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2019 season.
The full 99-1 countdown/schedule can be found here.
*Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2019 rosters.
59: Zeveyon Furcron, OL (Sr.) — Southern Illinois
After starting eight games at defensive tackle as a redshirt freshman in 2017, Furcron made the switch to the offensive line. His impact was immediate, starting all 11 games in 2018 and then all 12 games last season. The left guard paved the way for two 1,000-yard rushers in 2019 — D.J. Davis and Javon Williams Jr. — as SIU ranked 12th in the FCS with 233.4 rushing yards per game.
Furcron earned 2019 All-MVFC Second Team honors last season.
The 6-foot-1, 320-pounder has been huge in getting SIU’s offense more physical and more balanced. He’s a force on the interior of the offensive line, and his max squat of 800 pounds is an indicator of what kind of power he brings to the football field.
“I feel like I have taken my game to the next level this season,” Furcron said last year. “Especially the mental part of the game. I played o-line in high school and had a year under my belt last year. But getting in the film room and learning different schemes and techniques has helped me improve. I just have to keep striving to get better by watching film. You can never know or learn too much.”
