Austin Peay didn't only end the nation's longest current losing streak, it did it with exclamation marks with a little bit of spicy mustard on top.
THURSDAY PRE-GAME PREDICTION: Austin Peay's 29-game losing streak will come to an end this weekend
The Governors, located on the Tennessee-Kentucky border, thrashed FCS program Morehead State to the tune of 69-13 behind the running of Kentel Williams and QB JaVaughn Craig. It has been a long, long wait for the program, one that has only a few senior holdovers from the last win in Oct. 2014 — a victory over Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State, who the Govs will face next weekend.
Since then, there has been a coaching change with 2nd year coach Will Healy, and a big focus on recruiting the past few years. Several of those recent recruits paid dividends in the win.
The two-headed quarterback attack of Austin Peay was particularly effective in the win, as upperclassman Craig and true freshman Jeremiah Oatsvall were both productive. Craig scored four touchdowns on the ground, while Oatsvall scored two. Williams rushed for 203 yards in the game on just 8 carries, and he'll be around a few years. In all the Governors accounted for nearly 700 yards of offense.
Jer Mitchell had 8 tackles, Gunnar Scholato had 8 and Nate Howard had 8 more with 3.5 tackles for loss in the win.
