31: Marc Orozco, senior kicker — Grambling
Grambling had yet another spectacular season last year, going 11-2 with a SWAC championship and a trip to the Celebration Bowl. Orozco played a key role as the reliable kicker throughout the entire season. In the 40-32 win against Alcorn State in the SWAC title game, he booted a career-high 48-yarder.
Orozco finished the season with First Team All-Conference and STATS Third Team All-American honors. He scored 102 points, making 48-of-49 extra points and hitting 18-of-22 field goals.
This came a year after Orozco decided to leave the program in 2016 to care for his father who began experiencing medical issues and was diagnosed with Minimal Change Disease, which affects the kidneys. Orozco and his coaches agreed it was best for him to return home.
At age 20, Orozco worked 6-7 days a week with a few different jobs to help pay the bills. When chemo treatments for his father improved his condition, Orozco reached out to GSU to see if he could rejoin the team. It was a no-brainer for the coaching staff and Orozco had his best season yet.
Orozco's incredible journey can be read in full here.
