FCS Rookies In The NFL: Who Made The 53-Man Roster Today? What’s Next?

NOTE: UPDATED, 6 P.M. ET – THIS WILL CONTINUE TO BE UPDATED SATURDAY

Today's the day, folks.

Unlike past seasons when the NFL scaled down the rosters week by week to sculpt and mold final 53-man rosters, the league allowed teams to keep nearly 90 players until today. Today, the 53-man roster must be announced, and a lot of players will be waived by this evening — including of course some of the FCS standouts of 2016 who had the dream of playing in an NFL season opener next week.

Nearly 90 FCS rookies have been in camps since the spring. Not all of them made it this far, but many of them did — and sadly, many of them will be cut today. It's not the end of the world, as there are reserve lists and an injured player can be retained on the injured reserve list. And of course there are other avenues to keep your professional career alive, like the Arena League and the Canadian Football League, etc. But these guys undoubtedly wanted to make an NFL roster and had been battling in camps since May. But it's reality, a business.

Below is a look at the FCS rookies who made their team's roster.

These players may have been waived but could be picked up by other teams, and some may accept practice roster spots for their current team or other teams, making about $6,000 a week to hang in there with a team, hoping they may crack the game day roster sometime later this year.
