New Mexico State will don new helmets for their Week 1 game against Arizona State.
The Aggies, coming off their second-straight three-win season, have won a total of 11 games the last five seasons and are averaging 2.6 wins since 2005, the lowest in the FBS. Fifth-year head coach Doug Martin is looking for a breakthrough season in 2017, and while athletics director Mario Moccia said another non-bowl season doesn't mean a dismissal, he needs to see progress.
"When you coach at New Mexico State, there are hurdles that you will have to overcome," Moccia said in early August. "I am not a bowl game or bust type of person. I am looking for tangible progress."

That tangible progress can start by playing a competitive game against Arizona State in Temple this weekend, when New Mexico State will take the field with cool new helmets.
