The 2017 NFL Draft has come and gone and 253 new NFL players have emerged from the seven-round event.
Now that the dust has settled, here's a breakdown of the 2017 NFL Draft class by conference, school and position.

Draft Picks by Conference
The SEC led the way again this season with 53 total draft picks, far and away the best in the country. Next in line was the ACC, with 43. The Pac-12 (36) and Big Ten (35) were right behind.
Players from the FCS level totaled 15 draft picks, edging the next highest conference, the Big 12 and the AAC (14 each). The MAC (11 picks) was the final conference with at least 10 draft selections.

Schools with the most draft picks
While the SEC had the most total picks as a conference, Michigan edged Alabama for the most draft selections with 11 to the Crimson Tide's 10. Miami totaled nine selections, and three schools — Florida, LSU and Utah — had eight picks each.

Draft picks per school
As you can see, outside of an outlier with three schools with eight draft picks, the picks-per-school graph shows a nice curve — pretty much what you'd expect. A total of 97 different colleges had at least one player selected in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Offense vs. Defense (and specialists)
The 2017 NFL Draft class was lauded for its defensive talent, and that bears out in the results. 52.2 percent of the players selected play defense, whil 46.2 percent play offense. Four specialists were selected, just 1.6 percent of the picks.

Position breakdown
By position, wide receiver was the most-drafted position, with 32 receivers hearing their name called. They edged out the cornerbacks by just one player (Malachi Dupre was the final receiver drafted, seventh-to-last by the Green Bay Packers).
Defensive ends, running backs and safeties were next with 26 selections each.
The fewest positions drafted? Six centers, three kickers, two fullbacks and a long snapper.
