The Baltimore Colts selected John Elway with the first pick in the 1983 NFL Draft. Six picks later, Todd Blackledge went to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Buffalo Bills' selection of Jim Kelly at No. 14 was immediately followed with the New England Patriots' selection of Tony Eason at No. 15. Ken O'Brien went 24th to the New York Jets and Dan Marino went 27th to the Miami Dolphins.
Six quarterbacks in the first round. It's a record that hasn't been broken and is rarely threatened. Only four times since 2000 have more than three quarterbacks gone in the first round (four were selected in each instance).
Will the 35-year-old finally fall — or at least be tied — in 2018? Don't bet the farm. It is possible? Sure. So let's have some fun.
Here's a realistic first-round mock draft that includes seven quarterbacks in the first round. Because the point of this exercise is to find a reasonable way to get seven quarterbacks in the first round, don't fixate too much on a non-quarterback dropping a few spots (e.g. Quenton Nelson to No. 12).
