The 2018 NFL Scouting Combine is nearly upon us, and one of the most anticipated events regardless of position is the 40-yard dash. So now's as good a time as ever to sprint down memory lane and revisit the fastest NFL combine 40-yard dash times in the history of the event.

John Ross — 4.22 Seconds
Ross stunned pretty much everyone last year when he broke the record of 4.24 seconds set in both 2008 by Chris Johnson and Rondel Menendez in 1999.
Sadly for Ross, his impressive sprint was the highlight of a 2017 that otherwise went sideways.
He strained his calves during his historic dash and then had his labrum repaired a few months later. After being selected by the Bengals with the ninth overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, he was only sixth on the depth chart at the start of the season. He made his debut during week 2 against the Texans, fumbled on his first and (thus far) only carry of his NFL career, and was promptly benched.
The rest of the season didn't get much better. He missed weeks 3 through 5 with a knee injury, was a healthy scratch for the weeks that followed, and was eventually placed on IR in early December with a shoulder injury.
Here's hoping 2018 is more kind to Ross and that the knee issues haven't slowed him down.
