Odell Beckham Injury: What Will New York Giants Do at Wide Receiver?

Odell Beckham Injury: What Will New York Giants Do at Wide Receiver?

The New York Giants fell to 0-5 today after a 27-22 home loss to the previously winless Los Angeles Chargers.

And yet, that seems like the least of their worries after the offense lost an incredible four wide receivers to injury on the day, including a potentially season-ending injury for Odell Beckham. The All Pro receiver broke his fibula in the game.

After wideouts Sterling Shepard and Brandon Marshall went down on the same drive, Dwayne Harris fractured his foot.

Then came the mother of all NFL injuries. (Look away if you're squeamish.)

According to reports within the last few hours, it's not looking good for Beckham.

I’m told #NYG believe Odell Beckham Jr has broken fibula. Not sure if there is any ligament damage. Will have MRI.

Odell Beckham is headed for surgery, per source. He injured his leg in the fourth quarter.

With so many Giants' receivers going down, what options do they have going forward?

We can assume Beckham is done for the year, and Harris' fractured foot will take at least two months to heal, which means his season is pretty much over as well. We don't know today when Shepard and Marshall will be back.

If Marshall and Shepard aren't ready to go next Sunday night at Denver, second-year man Roger Lewis out of Bowling Green suddenly finds himself in the number one slot.

The Giants do have three receivers on the practice squad who could all suddenly find themselves suiting up seven days from now.

Here's who they are:

Marquis Bundy – New Mexico

Bundy finished his Lobos career with only 31 catches for 395 yards and two touchdowns at option-heavy New Mexico. Yikes.

Ed Eagan – Northwestern State

The 5' 10", 193-pound receiver out of FCS Northwestern State finished his career with 175 catches and 2,229 yards receiving to go along with 13 touchdowns.

Travis Rudolph – Florida State

Rudolph caught 56 balls for 840 yards last year and 7 touchdowns for the Seminoles.

The Wild Card: Chad Johnson?

The Bottom Line

The Giants' athletic trainers are going to earn their paychecks this week as they desperately need to get Shepard and Marshall onto the field, otherwise the Giants may suit up the most inexperienced receiving corps in NFL history.
