FCS RECRUITING: HBCU Rankings

FCS RECRUITING: HBCU Rankings

HERO Sports will take you conference-by-conference with FCS recruiting, and let you know who has the class to be coveted.

Today (Feb. 11), we re-rank the HBCUs of the FCS, the MEAC and the SWAC.

Today's ranking (below) takes into account only high school recruits who have committed to FCS schools as of Feb. 6 (NOTE: JUCOs and other transfers will be evaluated later this spring). Further updates will continue through national signing day. How do we rank? We pay more attention to the scholarship offers an athlete received than any kind of star rating from a recruiting service. If an FCS recruit holds 17 offers and 6 are of the FBS variety? That will rank him above a recruit who holds three — we let the colleges do the evaluations of film, they're the ones who get paid well to do that. Full final rankings will be released for teams and prospects on Monday, Feb. 11 at 12 p.m. ET[divider]

RECRUITING SCHEDULE: Conf. by Conf. – The Grand Finale[divider]

BMAC'S HBCU TAKE:

RK FCS SCHOOL CONF. SIGNEES
1 Alcorn State SWAC 19
2 Bethune-Cookman MEAC 28
3 Southern University SWAC 15
4 Prairie View A&M SWAC 26
5 Florida A&M MEAC 19
6 North Carolina A&T MEAC 21
7 Howard  MEAC 20
8 Alabama State SWAC 29
9 North Carolina Central MEAC 17
10 Alabama A&M SWAC 18

THE WINNER?: Alcorn State sure is looking impressive with its Celebration Bowl runner-up program really being active in the past month. There's a buzz about the Braves and it shows. Southern University is another SWAC power that has looked impressive in recruiting thus far. Meanwhile, the MEAC buzz is strong with Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M and Howard, just to name a few.

THE UPSTARTS?: Morgan State has done a fine job of recruiting and started out early and has been solid ever since. The program creates a buzz early on and sustains it all the way through the process. I like their style, honestly.

HOTTEST IN JANUARY/FEBRUARY?: I'd have to go with either Southern or Alcorn in this spot. Both have been extremely active of late.[divider]
