The Program
It's bad. In 2012, San Jose State finished 11-2, ranked 21st in the country. In the five years before that season, the Spartans never had a winning season. In the five years after being ranked for only the second time in its 68-year history, SJSU has won 21 games. Last year, San Jose was able to win just one game against an FBS opponent. The offense only scored more than two touchdowns in one game all season.

The City
While San Jose is a large sprawling metropolis, the best parts of the city are those things adjacent to the city limits. Silicon Valley is a 30-minute drive from downtown. Santa Clara and Levi's Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers are right on the outskirts. San Francisco is 90 minutes to the north. Pebble Beach is 90 minutes to the south. In effect, the best thing about San Jose is that it is close to so many things not in San Jose.

The Good
Due to its close proximity to Silicon Valley, there are plenty of tech companies that have its roots in San Jose. Businesses like Cisco, PayPal, Samsung and eBay all call San Jose home. It also can tout one of the best restaurants in all of California, Michelin-starred Adega. San Jose State is also the official origin of everyone's favorite in-stadium nuisance, The Wave.

The Bad
Renting or buying any type of home accommodations requires a kidney. When I told San Jose State alum, San Jose resident and HERO Sports' own Andy Coffaro that his town would make the list, his reaction was, "I honestly thought we'd be dead last."

Bottom Line
With tech giants towering over San Jose like Disney's The BFG, there is a strong and promising future for those who go to school or reside there. As for the rest of us, San Francisco is just 90 minutes away.
