Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is the heavy favorite to win the Heisman Trophy Finalist.
However, he's not as big a favorite as he was a month ago. Since the midpoint of the season, a select group of players have raised their own games to become legitimate candidates for the biggest individual award in college football. One of those players is the key to the Oklahoma offensive juggernaut, quarterback Baker Mayfield

As the only non-ACC quarterback in the running, Mayfield has been compiling his resume against Big 12 defenses for the last couple of months. One of the big strengths Mayfield possesses is that he is not turnover prone and his 38 touchdowns to eight interceptions resume would certainly back that up. Mayfield also leads the country in passing efficiency at 197.8, completion percentage (71.2), and yards per pass attempt (11.1).
Mayfield has also had the benefit of getting better as the season went on. Early losses to Houston and Ohio State were bad, but Mayfield's performance in those contests was not helped at all by a leaky defense that gave the Sooners no shot at winning either game. His season turnaround was completed last weekend when Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State for their ninth straight win and the Big 12 title.
This highlight video showcases every touchdown Mayfield scored in 2016. When watching this you will see how poised Mayfield is in the pocket and how he never gets flustered even when he knows the pressure is coming. Mayfield is also incredibly accurate with his throws and he has a knack of putting the ball in a spot where only his receiver can make the play. This is a longer video, but it is well worth watching to check out Mayfield's spectacular season.
Mayfield will be joined by Jackson, QB Deshaun Watson (Clemson),WR Dede Westbrook (Oklahoma), and DB Jabrill Peppers (Michigan) in New York for the Heisman Trophy presentation on Saturday night.
