USA Football Network, Inc., released its 26th USA College Football Division II Preseason All-American Teams Monday. Indianapolis’ football team had 13 players featured on the list. Six Greyhounds garnered first-team laurels, including junior quarterback Connor Barthel (pictured).
The annual preseason awards are selected by a national panel including head coaches, sports information directors, members of the Football Writers Association of America, Metropolitan New York Football Writers Association, New England Football Writers Association and Philadelphia Football Writers, pro football scouts plus staff journalists of Lindy’s Sports Annuals, The Sports Network and USA Football News.
Joining Barthel on the first team were offensive teammates Greg Johnson (WR) and Greg Wedow (OL). UIndy defenders Lee Campbell (DL), John Strickland (DB) and Andre Smith (DB) were also on the first team, while place kicker Scott Miller was among of the special team honorees.
Greyhounds on the PreSeason All-American Second Team included Reece Horn (WR), Hayden Janney (OL), Chris Massaro (OL) and Koby Orris (DB). Third-team honorees were Jordan Bedan (OL) and Derrick Bryant (LB).
UIndy opens the 2014 season with three straight road contests, starting with an in-region contest at Saginaw Valley Sep. 6.
