On August 22, we published a piece profiling the Best College Football Team in Every State, Regardless of Division. The idea was to create an equation based on team performance statistics to evaluate the success of every college football team in the country, from every NCAA division. 
It was a re-hashing of the first edition of the piece, published in January of 2016.

The first time we did this, it was kind of a mess. Four writers collaborated to calculate the scores for teams from each division, which meant four different spreadsheets that were eventually scattered to the wind. This time, I decided to do it myself. So now we have one relatively clean data set and one big spreadsheet.
I figured I might as well share it.
The data displayed here is from the past five years of NCAA college football (2012-2016). It includes wins and losses, winning percentages, MVP awards (Heisman/Payton/Hill/Gagliardi), AFCA Coach of the Year awards, bowl appearances, conference championships, playoff appearances, and national championships.
There was no single source for all of this data. FBS team data mostly came from Sports Reference, but FCS, D2, and D3 data came from a wide variety of sources. As such, there may be errors. I can guarantee the top two scores in each state are correct, as are any teams in range of the top spot for their state, as I double and triple checked those. Teams with lower scores might be a few games off, but I figure Cunningham's Law should take care of that.
