Kansas won 12 games and the Orange Bowl in 2007. Alabama won seven games and lost the Independence Bowl in 2007. That was only 11 years ago.
The Jayhawks followed up the bizarre 2007 campaign with a respectable 8-5 mark in 2008 that included another bowl win, the only time in program history they've appeared in (and won) back-to-back bowl games. Then the wheels came off. Actually, the entire bus exploded and the wheels were rocketed into outer space. At the same time, Nick Saban was just revving up Alabama's dynasty bus.
Kansas won one Big 12 game in 2009. Alabama won one national championship in 2009. And since that season, the Tide have won as many national titles (five) as Kansas has won conference games (five):
