UConn was one of the biggest surprises in the FBS in 2024.
The Huskies earned bowl-eligibility for the second time during Jim Mora’s third season as the team’s head coach. UConn had been in just one bowl game since 2010 before that.
This was also UConn’s first winning season in 14 years. The Huskies went 8-4 with their only losses being on the road against Maryland, Duke, and Syracuse and at home against Wake Forest. All of those matchups except Maryland were decided by a single possession.
Otherwise, with just one FCS game against Merrimack which was also a win, UConn went undefeated against Group of Five competition. Now the Huskies will get a chance to triumph against a Power Four opponent this week.
UConn is heading to Boston to take on North Carolina in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl. If the Huskies win, it would be their first bowl victory since 2009.

UConn vs. UNC Prediction
I predict UConn will win and cover the +6.5 spread. I also project the game will go Under 53.5 total points.
Maybe Bill Belichick ends up making North Carolina a better program in the long run. But I don’t see UNC making substantial improvements going into this game.
The Tar Heels started this season with a three-game winning streak, but they lost six of their next nine games. And considering they’re going through a coaching change, I could see UConn being a little more prepared for this matchup.
And because of the history of the program, I think this bowl game will mean a lot to the Huskies. I expect them to be motivated and to dominate the line of scrimmage early. If they do, I expect they’ll establish the tone of the game and will be capable of pulling off an upset.
