As much as BR-8 Texas A&M fans would prefer to erase last year’s embarrassing 59-0 defeat at BR-1 Alabama, the game is still a vivid memory from a frustrating 2014 season. The Aggies were outgained 602-172, picked up only eight first downs (to Alabama’s 30) and trailed 45-o entering halftime. It was their third straight loss and one that thrust them into the negative national spotlight. The Crimson Tide would advance to the national title game while A&M stumbled to a 7-5 regular season mark before defeating West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl.
Both teams enter this year’s mega matchup in College Station as playoff contenders and, despite it only being mid-October, the winner will gain a huge résumé-boosting victory that could loom large come late November. A loss for Alabama, their second, would likely remove them from playoff consideration and a win for Texas A&M might vault them into the projected playoff field.
