More than 200 FCS players are heading to new FCS schools for the 2023 season. Below are some of the top FCS-to-FCS transfers.
Transfer Trackers
Michael Ruttlen Jr. (DB): Princeton to Austin Peay
Ruttlen emerged as a standout safety for Princeton last season, earning First Team All-Ivy League accolades. After totaling 29 tackles and two interceptions in 2021, the 5-foot-9, 195-pounder recorded 37 tackles and three interceptions in 2022.
Tyler Long (LB): Norfolk State to Austin Peay
Long is a 5-foot-11, 222-pound linebacker that earned back-to-back All-MEAC honors (2021 Second Team, 2022 First Team). In 2021, he had 78 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, and 1.5 sacks. Last season, Long totaled 106 tackles, seven TFLs, five sacks, and one interception.
ShunDerrick Powell (RB): North Alabama to Central Arkansas
Powell had a breakout season in 2022, rushing 221 times for 1,508 yards and 18 TDs. The 5-foot-7, 175-pounder was No. 4 in FCS rushing TDs & rushing YPG (137.1), earning Sophomore All-American honors and being named the ASUN Offensive Player of the Year.
Clay Fields III (DB): Marist to Chattanooga
The 5-foot-11, 220-pound safety is a two-time All-Pioneer Football League selection and a 2021 AP Third Team All-American. In 2021, he had 59 tackles, five interceptions, and five pass breakups. Last season, Fields recorded 73 tackles, two TFLs, two interceptions, and four pass breakups.
Kym Wimberly (WR): Harvard to Delaware
Wimberly is a 6-foot, 201-pound WR. In 2021, he caught 34 passes for 453 yards and four TDs. Last season as a Second Team All-Ivy League selection, Wimberly had 51 receptions for 603 yards and four TDs.
Juwon Farri (RB): Monmouth to Eastern Illinois
Farri is a three-time First Team All-Big South selection in 2018, 2021 spring, and 2021 fall. He added spring All-American honors while being named the Big South Offensive Player of the Year. The 5-foot-10, 205-pounder ran for 1,024 yards and eight TDs in 2018, 520 yards and 10 TDs in four games in the spring, and 705 yards and eight TDs in 2021. Last season, he had only 53 carries in 11 games for 236 yards and two scores.
Kevin Daniels (RB): Northern Arizona to Eastern Illinois
Daniels is a big RB at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds. He had a standout freshman season in 2021, being named a Freshman All-American and on the All-Big Sky Second Team. Daniels averaged 6.2 yards per carry, rushing for 1,146 yards and seven TDs. He played in only three games last season.
Marcus Brown (DL): Howard to Incarnate Word
Brown had a breakout 2022 season, earning First Team All-MEAC accolades. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder has tremendous physical traits as he recorded 36 tackles, 8.5 TFLs, and five sacks.
Esaias Guthrie (DB): Delaware State to Jackson State
Guthrie was one of the best young FCS safeties in 2021, earning Freshman All-American and First Team All-MEAC honors. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder recorded 32 tackles, one TFL, four interceptions, and nine passes defended. He entered the transfer portal in September 2022.
Irvin Mulligan (RB): Wofford to Jackson State
Mulligan did not see game action in 2022 after two standout seasons. The 5-foot-10, 205-pounder was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team in the spring when he had 342 yards rushing and two TDs in five games. In 2021, he averaged 6.9 yards per carry, totaling 859 rushing yards and eight TDs as an All-Conference Second Team selection.
Brandon Savage (DB): Norfolk State to Morgan State
Savage played in just five games last season, but he had two standout seasons in 2019 and 2021. The 5-foot-11, 165-pounder had 60 tackles, two interceptions, and six passes defended in 2019. In 2021, he totaled 35 tackles, three interceptions, and 10 passes defended.
Gregory Reddick (DB): Saint Francis to North Alabama
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound safety was a two-year standout at SFU. A 2021 Freshman All-American and the NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year, Reddick had 45 tackles, 10 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two TFLs, and an interception. An All-NEC First Team selection last season, he totaled 77 tackles, three TFLs, one interception, one forced fumble, and three pass breakups.
Wesley Eliodor (WR): South Dakota to North Dakota
An explosive playmaker at 6-foot and 200 pounds, Eliodor is a two-time honorable mention all-MVFC selection. He was a standout kick returner in 2021, returning 18 kicks for 516 yards (28.7 avg.) and a TD. In 2022, Eliodor caught 30 passes for 482 yards and six TDs while returning 19 kicks for 522 yards (27.5 avg.).
Devon Starling (RB): Tennessee State to Northern Arizona
A 6-foot-1, 210-pound RB, Starling had a productive career at Tennessee State. He was named the 2021 spring OVC Co-Freshman of the Year, rushing for 648 yards on 124 carries and three touchdowns. In the fall of 2021, Starling had more than 1,100 all-purpose yards, rushing for 800 yards and leading the team in receptions with 37 catches for 312 yards. He was named a 2021 Sophomore All-American. Last season, Starling rushed 116 times for 540 yards and a TD.
Caleb Johnson (RB): Mississippi Valley State to Prairie View A&M
Johnson was a top young FCS running back in 2021, being named a Sophomore All-American after rushing 232 times for 1,004 yards and eight TDs. Last season, he ran 144 times for 524 yards and two scores.
Tyler King (LB): Stony Brook to Richmond
King is a 6-foot-1, 235-pound linebacker who starred in 2021. A Freshman All-American, he totaled 95 tackles, 12.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks, one interception, and four passes defended. King played in five games last season, recording 24 tackles and 2.5 TFLs.
Carson Camp (QB): South Dakota to Sac State
Camp had a strong first two seasons at USD. A spring 2021 MVFC All-Newcomer Team selection, he threw for nearly 1,000 yards in four games. That fall, the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder completed 65 percent of his passes for 2,252 yards, 17 TDs, and seven interceptions. In 2022, Camp played in seven games, throwing for 904 yards, four TDs, and five interceptions.
Damonta Witherspoon (RB): Murray State to Samford
The 5-foot-10, 211-pounder had multiple productive seasons at Murray State. A spring 2021 Second Team All-OVC pick, he recorded 501 yards rushing and five TDs in seven games. In the fall, Witherspoon racked up 912 yards rushing and eight scores. Last season, he rushed 146 times for 580 yards and a TD.
RJ Starkey (WR): Penn to Samford
At 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, Starkey’s college production started back in 2019 with 39 catches for 643 yards and seven TDs. In 2021, he had 24 receptions for 391 yards and three scores. And last season, Starkey was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team after catching 56 passes for 515 yards and four TDs.
Garrett Morris (LB): Penn to Samford
Morris was a two-year starter at Penn. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound LB totaled 45 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, and one interception in 2021. Last season, he earned All-Ivy League First Team accolades after tallying 71 tackles, 9.5 TFLs, two sacks, one interception, and four passes defended.
Kamron Smith (DB): Charleston Southern to Samford
A 2022 Sophomore All-American and a First Team All-Big South selection, the 6-foot cornerback recorded 37 tackles, one TFL, and 13 passes defended.
Zachary Clement (QB): Northwestern State to Southeastern Louisiana University
After starting the season 0-3, Northwestern State inserted Clement into the lineup. Clement finished 4-4, throwing for 2,498 yards, 19 TDs, and 13 interceptions, plus 303 rushing yards and two more scores. The 6-foot, 200-pound signal-caller was named to the All-Southland Conference Second Team.
Colin Bohanek (LB): Eastern Illinois to Southern Illinois
Bohanek is a 6-foot, 240-pounder who had 200 career tackles at EIU. He totaled 89 tackles, 11 TFLs, and 3.5 sacks in 2021. And as a 2022 Second Team All-OVC selection, he recorded 71 tackles, six TFLs, two forced fumbles, five passes defended, and two interceptions.
Kayvon Britten (RB): Arkansas-Pine Bluff to Tarleton State
The 5-foot-7, 190-pounder had a breakout 2022 season, getting named a Sophomore All-American and on the All-SWAC Second Team. He rushed 199 times for 1,063 yards and 16 TDs.
Monroe Beard III (LB): Arkansas-Pine Bluff to Tennessee State
A 6-foot-1, 210-pound LB, Beard had 138 career tackles at Arkansas-Pine Bluff along with 18 TFLs, 7.5 sacks, one interception, and three passes defended. His best season was in 2021 as an All-SWAC Second Team selection, recording 78 tackles, 8.5 TFLs, and five sacks.
Jake Reichwein (DL): Holy Cross to Villanova
Reichwein was a productive defensive lineman for a tough Holy Cross defense. The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder was a 2021 Phil Steele All-Patriot League Second Team selection after totaling 35 tackles, eight TFLs, and five sacks. In 2022, he recorded 48 tackles, 9.5 TFLs, and 6.5 sacks.
