Best 2025 FCS-to-FCS Transfers
While more than 75% of FCS All-Conference players with eligibility remaining return to their team, a lot of offseason focus is on players departing teams, notably to the FBS. There are also plenty of impactful FCS-to-FCS transfers every year.
Below are some of the top FCS players transferring to other FCS schools for the 2025 season.
The Top 15
15. Michael Wortham (AP) Eastern Washington to Montana
Losing Junior Bergen is tough, but Montana found an in-conference transfer who was one of the best FCS all-purpose players last season. Wortham was a 2024 multi-time All-American and All-Big Sky First Team selection at the AP position. Listed as a quarterback at EWU last year (he’s listed as a WR on Montana’s roster), Wortham threw for 88 yards and two touchdowns, rushed for 313 yards and five TDs, caught 25 passes for 209 yards and a score, and returned 38 kicks for 1,093 yards and one touchdown.
14. Matthew McClelland (S) Morehead State to Southern Illinois
SIU’s secondary is usually filled with talent, and the Salukis landed a great transfer in McClelland. PFF graded him as the No. 24 FCS safety last season. McClelland earned All-Pioneer Football League First Team accolades after totaling 109 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, four interceptions, and eight passes defended.
13. Stemarion Edwards (LB) Alcorn State to Norfolk State
Norfolk State has seen some good offseason buzz with the hiring of Michael Vick. Vick has added nice additions via the portal, including Edwards. A 2024 All-SWAC Second Team selection, Edwards racked up 91 tackles, 13.5 TFLs, and 2.5 sacks. In 2023, he had 62 tackles, seven TFLs, and 2.5 sacks.
12. Nate Adams (OL) Stephen F. Austin to South Dakota State
SDSU returns its starting offensive tackles Quinten Christensen and Sam Hagen, along with guard William Paepke, who logged more than 300 snaps last season. The Jackrabbits added an immediate impact player with Adams. The 6-foot-7 and 321-pounder was a two-year starter at SFA, earning 2024 All-Southland Conference Second Team honors.
11. Jacob Psyk (DL) Harvard to UC Davis
UC Davis loses some valuable experience on the d-line after its 2024 quarterfinal run. The Aggies get instant help from Psyk. The 6-foot-3 and 260-pounder was a 2024 All-Ivy League selection and was graded as PFF’s No. 26 FCS edge defender. Psyk totaled 26 tackles, 11 TFLs, and 6.5 sacks in 10 games.
10. Kimal Clark (S) CCSU to Indiana State
Clark looks to continue his stellar play in the MVFC. He is a two-time All-NEC selection, the 2024 NEC Defensive Player of the Year, and a 2024 FCS All-American. The safety tallied 117 tackles, three TFLs, and three pass breakups last fall. In 2023, Clark had 89 tackles, three TFLs, and three interceptions.
9. Khalani Riddick (S) SEMO to UC Davis
UC Davis already returns All-American safety Rex Connors. Now, a new dynamic duo forms as Riddick joins the secondary. Graded as a Top 50 FCS safety by PFF last season, Riddick also earned First Team All-Big South-OVC honors. He recorded 87 tackles, one interception, and five pass breakups.
8. Nathan Rembert (WR) MVSU to Jackson State
Jackson State got a splash in-conference transfer addition, grabbing one of the top SWAC targets. As a 2024 First Team All-Conference selection, Rembert hauled in 70 receptions for 1,038 yards and four touchdowns. PFF graded him as the No. 11 FCS wide receiver.
7. Luke Banbury (LB) Cornell to William & Mary
William & Mary doesn’t look to the transfer portal often, but it landed an impressive transfer in Banbury. A 2024 All-Ivy League First Team selection, the linebacker racked up 87 tackles in 10 games, including 6.5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, and seven passes defended. In 2023, he had 41 tackles.
6. Nahil Perkins (CB) Fordham to Samford
Samford has been sneaky good in landing impact FCS transfers in recent years. Perkins is coming off of an All-American season where he was graded as a Top 40 FCS cornerback by PFF. The back-to-back First Team All-Patriot League selection had 56 tackles, five TFLs, five interceptions, and 20 passes defended last year. In 2023, he totaled 62 tackles, three interceptions, and 17 passes defended.
5. Jaylon Spears (RB) Nicholls to UIW
Spears adds to what is already an explosive offense. He played in just two games last year at Nicholls. But in 2023, Spears was the Southland Conference Player of the Year after showing off his dynamic abilities. He recorded 115 rushes for 753 yards and six TDs, 16 receptions for 260 yards with three touchdowns, and 301 kick return yards.
4. Elijawah Tolbert (LB) Eastern Illinois to Montana
Tolbert should flourish in Montana’s defense, which funnels most of the tackles to the middle linebackers and safeties. He played in only four games at EIU last fall, but was previously a two-time All-Conference selection. Tolbert had 87 tackles in 2023, including seven TFLs. In 2022, he totaled 70 tackles, 6.5 TFLs, and three interceptions.
3. Tyler Morton (S) Nicholls to UIW
UIW signed a top FCS transfer class this offseason, highlighted by Morton, Jaylon Spears (above), and WR Chedon James (transfer from Fresno State who was a 2023 FCS All-American at Idaho State). Morton was also a 2023 All-American at Nicholls after he totaled 63 tackles, four TFLs, four interceptions, and 11 passes defended. In 2022, the safety had 71 tackles, 4.5 TFLs, two interceptions, and five passes defended. Morton appeared in only four games last season.
2. Julius Loughridge (RB) Fordham to South Dakota State
Most of SDSU’s rushing production from last year is gone. The Jacks looked to the portal and appeared to have gotten two backs capable of being 1,000-yard rushers. Nate White arrived from Wisconsin and had a standout spring. SDSU then drew headlines with its addition of Loughridge. Last year at this time, Loughridge was ranked HERO Sports’ No. 13 returning FCS running back. He is a two-time All-Patriot League First Team selection. Loughridge rushed for 1,044 yards and nine TDs last fall, 1,146 yards and 10 scores in 2023, and 896 yards and eight TDs in 2022.
1. Jamar Curtis (RB) Lafayette to Sac State
Sac State’s new coaching staff transformed its roster, adding around 50 transfers this offseason, including close to 40 from the FBS. But there have also been some splash FCS additions, including Curtis. Heading into last season, Curtis was ranked HERO Sports’ No. 4 returning FCS running back. Alongside Loughridge, he is a 2023 and 2024 All-Patriot League First Team selection. Last year, Curtis had 1,139 rushing yards with 16 TDs, grading out as PFF’s No. 14 FCS running back. In 2023, he tallied 1,460 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
