Not every Big 12 media member thinks Baker Mayfield is the best quarterback in the conference.
The Big 12 released the Media Preseason Football Team on Wednesday, and it is laced with Oklahoma and Texas players. Those two schools –with five selections apiece — combined for 10 of the 29 total players. Kansas State, TCU and Oklahoma State — whose quarterback Mason Rudolph presumably kept Baker Mayfield from being a unanimous selection — each had four. Iowa State and Texas Tech have two; Baylor, Kansas and West Virginia have one apiece.
Mayfield was, however, named Offensive Player of the Year. Kansas defensive end Dorance Armstrong was named Defensive Player of the Year after registering 20 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in 2016, and West Virginia quarterback Will Grier is Newcomer of the Year after transferring from Florida.
Armstrong is one of unanimous selections, along with Oklahoma tackle Orlando Brown and Oklahoma State receiver James Washington.
