Grand Canyon is new to the Mountain West, but the Antelopes have already left their mark.
The Lopes joined the conference this year, and they already have wins over the top two teams in the standings: Utah State and San Diego State. Grand Canyon is in fifth place and still in the regular-season title hunt, despite a 66-60 overtime loss at Nevada on Tuesday.
They’re especially dangerous at home. The Lopes are 9-2 at Global Credit Union Arena this season. The Aztecs and Aggies both lost on that floor, and Grand Canyon will host a suddenly resurgent team from Boise State tonight.

The Broncos were picked to finish in third place in the Mountain West in the preseason, but five losses in their first six conference games left them closer to the bottom of the standings. They’ve turned things around recently, though, and they head into Phoenix, Arizona, on a four-game winning streak, including an 89-58 win at San Jose State on Tuesday.
Georgetown transfer Drew Fielder led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds against the Spartans. He was one of five players who finished with more than 10 points, including 6-foot-7 sophomore Pearson Carmichael and 6-foot-8 freshman Bham Buom, both of whom came off the bench and finished with 11 points. Junior forward Andrew Meadow chipped in with 15 points and five rebounds.
Fielder also led the way with 20 points and eight rebounds in a 96-54 win over Air Force last Saturday. The 6-foot-11 junior leads the Broncos with 13.7 points and 5.6 rebounds a game.
Grand Canyon’s loss to Nevada snapped its three-game winning streak, including a 70-69 win over San Diego State.
The Antelopes are led by UNLV transfer Jaden Henley, who ranks No. 4 in the Mountain West with 17.1 points a game. Junior guard Makaih Williams is making a weekly case to be the conference’s next sixth-man of the year, as he has come off the bench and ranks No. 2 on the team with 13.1 points a game.

Boise State at Grand Canyon Prediction
I predict Grand Canyon wins, 75-71.
Boise State’s offense has been hot lately. The Broncos have scored more than 80 points in their past three games, and they gave San Diego State all it could handle in a 110-107 triple-overtime loss at the Aztecs’ Viejas Arena earlier this month.
Fielder seems to be coming into his own, and the Broncos have no shortage of scorers. But they’re going up against a Grand Canyon defense that is giving up the third-fewest points in the conference (68.2 PPG), and they’re facing the Antelopes on their home floor, which is quickly becoming one of the Mountain West’s toughest venues.
Henley led the Antelopes with 22 points in their 75-58 win at Boise State on Jan. 7. Williams added 16 points off the bench.
