UAB looks to end a mystifying trend at home when the Blazers host Memphis in Thursday’s American Conference game.
In nine American Conference games this season, UAB is 0-4 at home and 5-0 on the road. This is not a misprint.
That’s pretty hard to do.
UAB (14-8, 5-4) has won two in a row, both on the road, of course. The Blazers began this mini win streak with an 83-73 win at UTSA, followed by Saturday’s 72-68 victory over North Texas. UAB tied a school record with its fifth straight conference road win. Overall, it was the Blazers’ sixth straight road win. In the most recent win over North Texas, 6-foot-6 sophomore Chance Westry led UAB with 18 points, while 6-foot-8 senior KyeRon Lindsay-Martin had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Memphis (10-11, 5-4) simply can’t develop any consistency. After having one of its most impressive performances of the season in a 92-65 home victory over Florida Atlantic, Memphis lost in its most recent outing on Sunday, 78-76 at home to Tulane.
That snapped an 18-game home winning streak against American Conference opponents.
Memphis hit 32-of-38 free throws (.842), but it couldn’t make up for a rough day beyond the arc (4-of-20, .200). Tulane, on the other hand, shot 10-of-24 (.400) from three-point range. Memphis senior guard Dug McDaniel scored 13 points while adding four steals and four assists. Center Aaron Bradshaw, who has been playing well lately, finished with 12 points and nine rebounds before fouling out.

Memphis at UAB Prediction
No team has been more unpredictable than Memphis. That said, I like the Tigers getting the points.
As outlined above by the bizarre home-road splits in conference games, the fact that UAB is playing at Bartow Arena may benefit Memphis. The Blazers are 6-6 at home, but haven’t won in Birmingham since a 72-42 win over North Carolina Asheville on Dec. 21.
This season, UAB has a 7.0 scoring margin, averaging 81.9 points per game, while surrendering 74.9.
Memphis has just a 1.1 scoring margin, averaging 74.2 points, while allowing 73.1.
Entering Wednesday, UAB led the American Conference in turnover margin (3.18). Memphis’s turnover margin is 0.00 since the Tigers have committed 14.3 turnovers and forced a similar amount each game.
Neither team is an adept three-point shooting team. Memphis shoots .320 while UAB is at .290. Both are nearly identical from the free throw line, with Memphis shooting .712 and UAB .709. UAB has the edge in rebounding – 41.3 per game to 37.1.
Memphis is led in scoring by McDaniel (13.9 PPG). Senior guard Sincere Parker is the second-leading scorer, averaging 9.8 points. Parker is looking to bounce back from a rough outing against Tulane when he scored nine points, shooting 1-for-8 from the field. He did hit all six foul shots.
UAB is led in scoring by Westry (14.9 PPG), but he shoots just .264 from three-point range. The second-leading scorer is 6-foot-2 junior Jacob Meyer (13.8 PPG), who is shooting just .288 from beyond the arc.
