The Furman men’s basketball team is heading to the 2026 NCAA Tournament after winning the Southern Conference. In the SoCon Tournament, it defeated Samford 86-81, UNC Greensboro 81-75, and ETSU 76-61 in the championship game to clinch the auto-bid.
The Paladins are 22-12 entering the Big Dance and on a 3-game winning streak.
Furman NCAA Tournament Appearances
In 2026, Furman basketball will make its 8th appearance in the Division I NCAA Tournament.
The Paladins also reached the tourney in 1971, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1980, and 2023.

Furman Basketball NCAA Tournament Wins
Furman has won two games in the Division I NCAA Tournament, defeating South Carolina in 1974 and Virginia in 2023.
Its overall record in the Big Dance is 2-9 after losing in the 2026 First Round.
Furman Basketball Coach Bob Richey
Bob Richey is in his ninth season leading Furman.
He previously spent six years on the Paladin coaching staff before being promoted to head coach. In his first season as HC, Furman finished 23-10. The Paladins have had a winning record in all nine seasons under Richey, including hitting at least 20 wins seven times.
The Paladins reached the NCAA Tournament in 2023 and upset No. 4 seed Virginia in the opening round.
Before Furman, Richey spent five years on the Charleston Southern coaching staff.
