The NDSU men’s basketball team is heading to the 2026 NCAA Tournament after winning the Summit League. In the Summit League Tournament, the Bison defeated Oral Roberts 76-65, Omaha 74-50, and North Dakota 70-62 in the championship game to clinch the auto-bid.
The Bison are 27-7 overall entering the Big Dance and on a 4-game winning streak.
NDSU NCAA Tournament Appearances
In 2026, NDSU basketball will make its 5th appearance in the Division I NCAA Tournament.
The Bison also reached the tourney in 2009, 2014, 2015, and 2019. They qualified for the 2020 tournament, but it was canceled due to COVID.

NDSU Basketball NCAA Tournament Wins
NDSU has won two games in the Division I NCAA Tournament, defeating Oklahoma in 2014 and North Carolina Central in the 2019 First Four.
The Bison have a 2-5 overall record in the Big Dance.
NDSU Basketball Coach David Richman
David Richman is in his 12th year as the Bison head coach.
He has now led the Bison to four NCAA Tournament appearances and eight Summit League Tournament championship games. Richman entered this season with a 211-142 overall record and is the second-fastest coach in NDSU history to reach 100 wins.
Before being named the head coach, Richman was an assistant on the NDSU staff, including seven seasons as the associate head coach. He played college ball at NDSCS before attending NDSU. Richman graduated from NDSU in 2002 and then earned a master’s degree from NDSU in 2005.
