The Omaha men’s basketball team is heading to the 2025 NCAA Tournament after winning the Summit League. In the Summit tourney, it defeated Kansas City 70-61, South Dakota 100-75, and St. Thomas 85-75 in the championship game to clinch the auto-bid.
The Mavericks are 22-12 overall this season and on a 6-game winning streak.
Omaha NCAA Tournament Appearances
In 2025, Omaha basketball will make its first appearance in the Division 1 NCAA Tournament.
The Mavericks reached the D2 Tournament 12 times between 1975 and 2010.

Omaha Basketball Coach Chris Crutchfield Salary
Chris Crutchfield has an annual base salary of about $291,000 as Omaha’s head basketball coach.
Crutchfield was named Omaha’s head coach on March 18, 2022. He has built the Mavericks with year-after-year improvement. In 2022-23, they finished 9-23 overall. The next season, Omaha went 15-18. This year, the team finished 22-12 overall and 13-3 in the Summit League.
Crutchfield was an Oregon assistant coach before joining Omaha. Prior to Oregon, he had a head coaching stint at East Central and assistant coaching stops at Arkansas and Oklahoma.
His ties at Omaha go back to playing football and basketball for the Mavericks. Crutchfield also made his coaching debut at Omaha in 1995.
