While Minnesota earned that ranking thanks to a win over Penn State four days earlier, they were largely 9-0 and in the playoff discussion thanks to a favorable schedule. Kentucky and Washington State made similar jumps in 2018, rising from under the radar into the real playoff discussion come early November.
