Over the next seven decades, the new Memphis school would change names four times: West Tennessee State Teachers College, 1925; Memphis State College, 1941; Memphis State University, 1951; University of Memphis, 1994.
And for their football game against Kansas on Saturday, the school will honor its most recent name and the one that remained in existence for the longest, Memphis State.
