The Top 50 College Football Quarterbacks: Where Are They From?

The Top 50 College Football Quarterbacks: Where Are They From?

Two hundred and forty-three people from the state of Kentucky have played in the NFL. None of them are from the capital city of Frankfort. Toledo quarterback Logan Woodside could become the first.

COMPARE: Pit Top QBs Against Each Other

Woodside was a three-star recruit (247Sports) in the 2013 class from Franklin County High School. As the 73rd-ranked pro-style passer in the nation and 1,706th-ranked overall player, college football programs weren't clamoring for his services. In fact, he had zero offers until the summer before his senior season. That's when Ohio, Toledo, Troy and a few others saw something in the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder.

He picked the Rockets and, five years later, is one of the best quarterbacks in MAC history and one of the best in the FBS right now. Woodside led the nation in passing touchdowns last year (45), shattering Bruce Gradkowski's single-season program record of 29.

"He has been self-made in a lot of ways," Toledo coach Jason Candle said August, "by great determination and grit. That's his edge."

That edge led Toledo to a 3-0 start and near upset of Miami (FL) in Week 4. He's also making a quiet rise up 2018 NFL Draft boards thanks to an efficient style that has produced the 13th-best Total QBR in the FBS this year. Unsurprisingly, he's the only Kentuckian in the top 50.

Kentucky is one of 21 different states represented among the top 50 quarterbacks in college football (using ESPN's Total QBR) and it's one of 11 states with just one quarterback on the list. Texas (10) has the most, followed by California and Florida (five apiece) and four states with three each, including Georgia and Michigan.

Forty-nine of the 50 hail from the United States. Ohio quarterback and Ontario native Nathan Rourke is the lone non-American. Additionally, the 50 players have 50 different hometowns.

Here's a map of hometowns for the top 50 college football quarterbacks:
