College Football Countdown: Auburn’s Nick Coe is the Best No. 91 in College Football

HERO Sports is counting down the days until the kickoff of the 2018 college football season on Saturday, Aug. 25, by featuring the best player in the FBS at each jersey number, from 99-1. Each day, from May 18 through Aug. 24, we'll publish one article showcasing the best player whose jersey number matches the number of days remaining.

No. 91 Nick Coe

Auburn – DE

There aren't many backups like Nick Coe.

Coe made an instant impact as a redshirt freshman last season, registering 29 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks while appearing in all 14 games. Though Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele played the 6-foot-5, 282-pounder at multiple positions along the line, Coe primarily plays behind Marlon Davidson.

“Just to have a good backup, man, sometimes — I’ll be scared of Nick taking my spot, because he’s so good, so talented and can play anywhere on the D-line,” Davidson, a junior end, said this spring.

He's playing multiple positions so they can get him on the field but he's also because he has the speed, power and instincts to do just about everything.

“Probably the biggest thing is that young guys, you can see pass rush early — the skill set to pass rush,” Steele said in November. “But the other thing is that he’s really improved his run game play, his technique on run blocks.”

He doesn't get the sack on this play but here's the speed-power combo:
