It's been a long time since Alabama had a sub.-500 at any point during a season. It's been even longer since the Crimson Tide had a sub-.500 record after Week 1. They won the 2006 season opener but finished the season with 6-7 mark, dipping below .500 with a loss to Oklahoma State in the Independence Bowl.

When was the last time Alabama lost their season opener?

Answer

2001

Alabama scheduled a home-and-home series with UCLA for the season opener in 2000 (away) and 2001 (home). They lost to the Bruins, 35-24, in 2000 and again, 2001, 20-17.

They won a total of 10 games those seasons, which is tied for their lowest two-year win total in the last six decades.
