Dino Babers Couldn’t Make It, So Jim Boeheim Recruited a Syracuse Football Player

The coach who has impressed me the most so far at the ACC Media Kickoff? Dino Babers.

Syracuse may be coming off three consecutive 4-8 seasons, but it's almost impossible not to like the Orange front man. He's funny and charismatic — and has stories for days.

Dino Babers had a key recruit coming to campus & couldn't make it. So he called Jim Boeheim… to fill in and recruit a football player. pic.twitter.com/EDGTU9SHzq

I caught up with Babers for a few minutes on Thursday and we got to talking about recruiting. I figured the conversation would focus on his solid class and outside-the-box recruiting tactics — but instead — Babers immediately mentioned legendary 'Cuse hoops coach Jim Boeheim.

It turns out Boeheim became Babers' go-to guy on the recruiting trail one time. A young prospect was supposed to come one week, but ended up coming at a time where literally no one from the Syracuse football staff was on campus.

Boeheim to the rescue!

This is great and should be happening on campuses around the country. Shoot, we might as well just have football players playing basketball and vice versa.

All jokes aside — these two make a great pair at Syracuse. Hopefully Babers can channel some of his buddy's winning ways.
