Ultimate College Football Road Trip
As much as I love podcasting and talking with players and coaches for articles, my favorite annual project is the Ultimate College Football Road Trip. Last year, the trip included 44 games and 30,000 miles over 106 days. In 2017, it was 35 games and 25,000 miles over 106 days.
In the weeks leading up to this year's Ultimate College Football Road Trip, I'm creating conference road trips. It's simple: You can only attend games within that conference (including as many non-conference games as you'd like), and you must visit each stadium at least once.
First up: The American.

Florida State
On the football field, Florida State has fallen from consistent national championship contender to a rebuilding program. Off the field, the Seminoles' athletic department is making big moves by privatizing the athletics department.
"FSU's board of trustees voted Friday to create Florida State University Athletics Association, a direct-support organization that will run the athletics department," reported the Orlando Sentinel.
While it's not unprecedented (nearby UCF and Florida have similar arrangements), it's extremely important? Among other things, the department, despite representing a public school, wouldn't be bound by public-records requests and would operate like the athletics department at Stanford, Notre Dame or another private school.
"The switch will also give FSU athletics all the privileges of a private corporation, including declining any public-records requests while still preserving its sovereign immunity," Iliana Limon Romero wrote. "The immunity clause for state agencies caps any jury judgments or settlements reached by the athletics department at $200,000. Any further settlements would have to be approved by the state Legislature to avoid undue burden on taxpayers, a privilege not enjoyed by traditional corporations."

Diaz Reeling 'Em In
Manny Diaz and Miami added another huge piece on Sunday to one of the nation's best 2020 recruiting classes. Jalen Rivers, a 6-foot-6, 330-pound tackle from Orange Park, Fla., picked the Canes. He's the eighth four-star commit (plus a five-star) in a class that ranks fourth nationally.
