Sorry, Las Cruces
Athlon Sports ranked all 130 FBS head-coaching jobs "based on the attractiveness of the position from a coaching perspective." They considered "tradition, facilities, location, money, ability to recruit talent," and simply asked themselves: "Where would we want to coach?"
They would not want to coach at New Mexico State, which sits in one of the most unique areas of the country (I said unique, not best) and ranks dead last among the 130 jobs.
In this impossibly difficult task, I think, among other things: USC and Illinois are too high, Notre Dame and South Carolina are too low.
Also: Ralph Russo of the Associated Press ranked first-year coaches by those most likely to succeed.

Service Academy Confusion
While presenting the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy to the Army football team on Monday, President Trump made an interesting comment about service academy athletes:
"I'm gonna look at doing a waiver for service academy athletes who can get into the major leagues like the NFL, hockey. And they'll serve their time after they're finished with professional sports."
That would be a reversal of his own administration's policy, which was enacted in 2017 and reversed a 2016 rule from the Obama administration that initially allowed athletes to postpone their service. Later on Monday, the Pentagon said nope.
“No service shall make unique or special arrangements pertaining to the initial assignments for [military service academies] or [Reserve Officer Training Corps] graduates that are not typically available to other such graduates,” spokesperson Jessica Maxwell said.

Trend or Blip?
Only 13 FCS players were selected in the 2019 NFL Draft, the second-fewest since the draft shrunk to seven rounds in 1993. And with the down year, the FCS' three-year draft average (16) is the lowest in more than a decade.
Is it a trend or blip?

More Love for Syracuse?
Connor O'Gara from Saturday Down South made a list of teams that aren't getting enough love in the very-early top 25 rankings for the 2019 college football season. Among them: Syracuse, who is also being oddly vague in discussing Dino Babers' new contract extension. The Orange lost quarterback Eric Dungey but are loaded at the skill positions and have a strong defensive line.

Remember When…
In October 2014, Georgia Tech punter Ryan Rodwell took a fake punt for a first down before getting demolished by Miami (FL) defensive back Marques Gayot:
